Reading for pleasure at leisure is a hard habit to cultivate amongst today's children. Facing immense challenges from easier and lazier entertainment sources such as the computer and television, today's children hardly read which is one of the main reason of their poor communication skills - be it spoken or written. To master a language, it has to be used and used (pardon me) and used, not just being 'studied'.
We at Hobbes constantly encourage our children to read books of interest from our library. A generous collection of English, Chinese and Malay books ranging from classics, fiction, encyclopaedia, poetry and to even comics are at every child's disposal. Reading and writing sessions are held and children are introduced to read a myriad of books which besides being entertaining, is also a genteel habit which fill their thirst for knowledge as well as enhancing their mastery of the language.
